|1||American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers||The American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers was founded in 1980 to provide the musical community with a standard of work and expertise upon which they could depend. The Federationâ€™s mission is to enhance the public's understanding and appreciation of the violin and bow families, and of related areas of expertise, including the making of new instruments, as well as conservation and restoration of historical and modern instruments. Now numbering over 170 of the finest makers, dealers and restorers in the United States and Canada, the Federation has strict requirements for membership. In addition to submitting an example of his or her work for review, a prospective member must have at least nine years of experience working in the profession.||http://www. afvbm.org|

The Australian Strings Association (AUSTA) is a professional association of players and makers of bowed string instruments which promotes excellence inÂ all aspects of performance, teaching, conducting and string instrument making. AUSTA aims to inspire and support students, amateurs and professionals and also to facilitate communication at local, national and international levels.
AUSTA is a very active member of the CISTA partnership of string associations worldwide. With members throughout Australia and a small international data base we present conferences, workshops and promote goods and services for string players throughout the country. The Guild of American Luthiers is a non-profit educational membership organization whose purpose is to facilitate learning about the art, craft and science of lutherie.
|4||Â International Viola Society||The International Viola Society (the "IVS" or "the Society") is the umbrella organization that governs and supports existing and future national and regional organized groups or "National Sections" of violists. |5||Â International Society of Bassists||The ISB was founded by the world-renowned virtuoso Gary Karr in 1967. With some 3,000 members in over 40 countries, the ISB is an organization for those who teach, study, play, repair, build and enjoy the double bass. The ISB is a forum for communication among bassists throughout the world and across a wide variety of musical styles. Members receive our journal, "Bass World," three times per year and the "Bass Line" newsletter twice yearly. Every two years the ISB holds an international convention and double bass competition, a composition contest, and now, a maker's competition.
